“Lachtara. Longing” is a road movie drama about a contemporary family torn apart by cultural differences and migration. A Greek father and his Polish son — half Greek himself — both at turning points in their lives, reunite in Athens after many years following the death of the former wife and mother. Together, they must travel to Wałbrzych to settle matters concerning the family apartment. Although united by grief, they are divided by temperament, language, and years of unspoken resentment, often softened by unexpected humor, irony, and rough male tenderness. Forced by circumstance, they embark on a journey across Europe in an old Polonez, retracing the path of Greek refugees who fled the Civil War in 1949. Traveling through a continent shaped once again by migration and displacement, father and son attempt to make up for lost time and learn how to be together again — awkwardly, humorously, but most often painfully. For the son, the journey becomes a belated lesson in courage and the forgotten history of Greek émigrés in Poland; for the father, it is a lesson in responsibility, humility, and emotional closeness he had never before allowed himself.
